Listed below by category are some of the more common problems that might
arise from time to time when using Kaboom!, along with their probable causes
and advised solutions.
1. The record button or the Compression pop-up menu is dimmed so I cannot choose it.
(a) You are using a version of the Macintosh System Software earlier than version 6.0.7. System 6.0.7 or later is required to record sounds inside the Kaboom! Factory and to use MACE compression.
(b) You do not have a microphone hooked up to your Macintosh. Make sure that the microphone is properly plugged in, as instructed in your user manual.
(c) You have not chosen a sound input device for your Macintosh. To do
so, choose the Recording Options command from the Edit menu in the Kaboom!
Factory. If this command is unavailable, select an input device using the
Sound control panel.
2. I don't see the files I need when I choose the Open command.
If you wish to have the Kaboom! Factory not show you the Kaboom! Sounds folder in your System Folder each time the Open command is chosen, see "Preferences" in Part Three to turn this option off.
If you are in the correct folder and do not see the sound file you wish
to open, choose the All Sound Files option from the File Type pop-up menu.
3. I run out of memory using the Kaboom! Factory.
Editing sounds digitally can require a fair amount of memory. If you find that you are unable to complete certain tasks in the Kaboom! Factory because of memory limitations and are using System 6 under MultiFinder or System 7, you should allocate more memory from the desktop by selecting the Kaboom! Factory icon, choosing the Get Info command from the File menu, and allocating more memory in the space provided.
