Install Other OS Petitboot and disk part on official PS3 Firmware.

*Firmware needs to be dated from before May 2010 in order to be possible.

Petitboot is the modern firmware/bootloader for OpenPOWER systems (similar to open firmware on earlier PowerPC systems).

Step 0:
Disable internet access for Game OS and do not update the system.
Any system software from May 2010 to present no longer supports Other OS officially and is very challenging to downgrade.

Step 1:
*You will need to format the system if you want to use internal drive. You Will lose data.

Go To settings > System Settings > Format Utility > Format Hard Disk > Yes > Custom > "Allot 10GB to the PS3 System" Quick Format.

Step 2:

On a FAT32 USB drive place your petitboot .bld file at:
/PS3/OTHEROS/otheros.bld .

Go To settings > System Settings > "Install Other OS".
It should find the partition.

Step 3:
Go To settings > System Settings > "Default System" > "Other OS" > Yes. The PS3 should automatically start petitboot upon boot.
