Viewing AVIF image files in Debian Sid PPC64:

The official GNOME photo viewer: gThumb, has AVIF support and works correctly in Debian Ports Sid (Sep 2025) on PowerPC 64 BE:

sudo apt install gthumb heif-gdk-pixbuf libavif-gdk-pixbuf

You can open as in PCManfm-qt to gthumb to view.
