Get latest source code for portage:

You can get latest versions of packages rather then only get what was tested by Gentoo for your ISA.

Note that this can lead to unstability and you must customize this to the ISA you use.

Edit the /etc/portage/make.conf" and add this line:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64"

Replace amd64 with your ISA (must have the ~ beforehand).

Save and now use can update to latest available packages that had not been tested yet.
